On a two acre site in Darwin’s Alawa, Lakeside Drive Community Garden showcases tropical food production and sustainable living education while regularly hosts workshops and events on permaculture, gardening and sustainability themes. LDCG acts as a practical demonstration of design for sustainable living and gardening for self-sufficiency, which can be emulated by people in their own homes.

Locals learn about the reduction of household waste, in an urban environment, sustainable gardening principles and practices including composting, mulching and water-wise designs. They also learn how to grow native species and food plants suitable for the tropics, both in their own backyards and the wider community.
