2019 Australian Community Media Landcare Community Group Award – QLD
Hinterland Bush Links
A community organisation working to guarantee the long-term survival of our native plants and animals in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. As a part of The Great Eastern Ranges Initiative, they contribute to restoring and connecting landscape along the Great Dividing Range of eastern Australia.
Launched in 2011, they now boast 255 formal members and have established Roving Restorers, a thriving volunteer-led bush restoration team assisting private landholders with weed management and re-vegetation work they are undertaking as part of their own bush restoration projects. They lead work eradicating Weeds of National Significance (Cats claw creeper, Madeira vine) and Dutchman’s pipe (toxic to the larvae of the Richmond birdwing butterfly) in the Upper Mary Valley. And their education programme includes our annual Subtropical Forests Ecology Course, giving landholders and bush restorers the knowledge and skills to plan and execute bush restoration projects.
