2019 Australian Government Individual Landcarer Award – SA
Trevor Waldhuter, Barossa Bushgardens
Native vegetation at the Bushgardens has doubled as a result of Trevor’s dedication to landcare. He has transformed degraded land into ‘model ecosystems’ with appropriate understory composition and abundance (e.g. Red Gum, Blue Gum, Peppermint Box Woodlands). Trevor physically implements soil preparation, weed control, planting, watering and pruning techniques and he is the primary Tour Guide at the Bushgardens, speaking regularly with Landcare and Garden Groups, giving weekend tours to Government delegations and during special events. Trevor always provides spontaneous tours to visitors. Appreciative, positive feedback has increased visitation with more landholders purchasing plants for land rehabilitation. Trevor deserves recognition for his ability to capture people’s attention and initiate behaviour change.
