2019 Australian Government Landcare Farming Award – VIC
Fraser Pogue
Irrigated cropper Fraser Pogue demonstrates excellence and leadership in sustainable farm practices on his 530ha Ardmona farm and more broadly in the Victorian cropping industry. Fraser has been at the forefront of regenerative and innovative cropping practices, being an early adopter of practices such as zero tillage, multi-species cover cropping, sub-surface drip irrigation, little to no insecticide or fungicide use and biological liquid fertilisers-just to name a few. He has recently re-introduced cattle onto the property to help manage high stubble loads. Fraser’s farming system involves growing irrigated corn, wheat and legume-cereal mixes in rotation with multi-species cover crops and zero-tillage to maintain groundcover all year. This strategy also helps increase the diversity of plants and soil biology on and below his paddocks.
