2019 Indigenous Land Management Award – QLD
Cape York Weeds and Feral Animals Incorporated
“It means that all our hard work over the years has been justified, as we by no means did it the easy way. This has been such a good opportunity to showcase what brilliant workplace achievements we have had up here over the years, as Cape York Peninsula has largely been forgotten about over the years. We are very humbled and grateful to you for your consideration. I must admit, I am still trying to work out if we have really won it or, have I dreamt it.” – Trevor Meldrum, Environmental Operations Manager, Cape York Weeds and Feral Animals Incorporated
Being an Indigenous Not for Profit group, Cape CYWAFA_INC have been leaders in the field of Weeds and Feral Animals control work. They work with the Tropical Weeds Research Centre in developing cutting edge control programs. And by combating weeds and feral animals, they have helped restore the health of internationally known wetlands out at Keatings Lagoon Conservation Area in Cooktown.
