By joining forces, Northern Yarra Landcare Network and VicRoads were able to achieve 14km’s of invasive weed control. Without collective action across boundaries, invasive weed populations were thriving along the Melba Highway after the Black Saturday Fires. To tackle this, Northern Yarra Landcare Network encouraged the involvement of over 300 landowners and worked with VicRoads to adjust the timing and method of their weed treatments to ensure maximum effect.

The Melba Highway has long been regarded as a vector for weeds, but this integral partnership has not only neutralised that threat, but also formed the basis of an ongoing arrangement with landowners founded on trust and cooperation.
