Seqwater – QLD

Seqwater collaborates with six local groups to improve catchment water quality on private agricultural properties in South East Queensland. The Seqwater Source Protection Partnership Program (SPPP) has facilitated 40 kilometre of waterway riparian weed control, 47 new off-stream livestock watering points, the planting of 15,500 trees, 15 kilometre of fencing, and the implementation of non-waterway weed control over 35 hectares. Each partner’s annual implementation plan utilises Seqwater’s knowledge of catchments based on risk to drinking water quality, and combines it with the local Group’s understanding of individual landholders. By providing improved job security for local Group staff via multi-year funding arrangements, the partnership model overcomes continuity issues created by funding insecurity and traditional grant-based funding models.
