Friends of Fogg Dam

Friends of Fogg Dam Inc (FOFD) has several partners, principally the Fogg Dam based Rangers of the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory (Parks). In 1992, the NT government remodelled the causeway of Heritage listed Fogg Dam and created two walking trails and lookouts for observing birds, flora and fauna.

The causeway alteration inadvertently caused weed growth in the dam. By 2005, weeds were a problem throughout the Reserve and approximately 70 per cent of the dam’s 125Ha surface was covered by vegetation, limiting its value as a bird, reptile and turtle habitat. Concerned, two local residents became interested in establishing a volunteer group to assist at Fogg Dam, contacted Parks and the TOs and organised a public meeting at the dam in 2006. About 30 people attended. FOFD was created and began to assist Parks with general maintenance, including weed control. A working partnership with Parks was established.

Friends of Fogg Dam Inc’s defined purpose is to protect and enhance the natural environment and biodiversity of the Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve and wetlands as a place with a diverse, secure and healthy natural environment cared for and appreciated by all.
