Tim Reed- Wenlock Enterprises

“The Award came as a surprise, looking at all the amazing work others have been doing while I just think I’m doing my thing. It’s not until someone actually outlined some of the things we have changed and how noticeably different the property looks that I realise fully what we are achieving. Sharing the story of where we started and different approaches to managing the property and thinking about the whole landscape has made a tired farm into a tranquil property for the future. Through winning the award I hope it shows that if everyone keeps doing their little bit, no matter how small they think it is. Together it makes a BIG difference.” Tim Reed, TAS Australian Government Landcare Farming Award Finalist

Tim Reed and his family live on their 232-acre beef farm in Rosevale, Tasmania. Tim has grown up in the agriculture/ horticulture and tourism sectors, starting out as a trainee in a native plant nursery, before working on farms and orchards in Tasmania and New Zealand. Over the past 7 years, Tim’s been working to improve the rundown property, formally set stocked and conventional farmed, by switching to a new style of farming, a combination of sustainable, holistic and regenerative management. Tim has been researching and talking to others, attending workshops, to work out what works best for the local area, trialling many different pasture combinations and weed management strategies while building an Angus breeding herd, re-designing the layout of the entire farm and running a small agricultural contracting business.
