Victor Harbor Coastcare

“We’ve been working 20 years on the dunes at Victor Harbor, and Victor Harbor Coastcare can say we can notice the difference there. There are some weeds that we were working on 20 years ago that we don’t see there anymore. It’s wonderful that we’ve made such progress and it’s not just me it’s a group of about 20 of us, we have two working bees a month and we’ve become really good friends from working together for so long. Thank you very much to everybody that’s made it possible for us to win this award. If you don’t start somewhere, you’ll never get anywhere.” Richard House OAM, President of Victor Harbor Coastcare.

Victor Harbor Coastcare was formed in 1999 and has since been actively working along Victor Harbor’s coastline, from the Bluff Reserve to Hayborough dunes. They have worked tirelessly to control target weeds and improve biodiversity, improving boardwalks and fencing, holding annual Clean Up Australia Day working bees, developing directional and interpretive signage, monthly monitoring of sand movement and raising awareness about coastal issues in the community.
