Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation Narrap Unit

The Narrap Unit has had a significant impact on Natural Resource Management (NRM) within Wurundjeri country, bringing Indigenous land management practices back into use. The biggest influence of the Unit has been the reintroduction of cultural burns to the landscape.

The Unit employs the use of cool burns in consultation with organisations such as Forest Management Victoria, the Country Fire Authority and land managers throughout Wurundjeri Country. All team members have a minimum Certificate III in Conservation Management and learn on the job from its mostly Indigenous crew.

The increased demand for the Narrap Unit has led to a five-fold expansion of their work. The current team of 20 full-time employees, including a woman-only crew, is expected to grow to 40 in the next two years. The Narrap Unit is an excellent example of indigenous self-determination, underlined by sound relationships, integrity and a passion for their work.
